Artemis Valsamaki - Greece

bio:

Born in Athens, Greece, Artemis Valsamaki holds a BA in Design (1999) and a state certification in Handmade Jewelry from the Mokume School (2003). Operating from her Athens-based studio since 2004, she views jewelry not just as ornamentation, but as a wearable manifestation of thoughts and emotions that interacts with the human body on physical, mental, and spiritual levels. Her practice uniquely blends traditional silversmithing with painting, often applying acrylics or oils directly onto prepared metals like copper. This meticulous, time-consuming process ensures that her large-scale pieces remain entirely unique. Drawing inspiration from fantasy, mythology, and psychology, she creates body-related visual journals, such as her "Myth Series." Ultimately, Valsamaki’s creations are intricate, visual-narrative tales. Designed to be worn or displayed as standalone sculptures, her deeply personal artwork is driven by a profound belief in the healing power of art.

statement:

We are shaped by the events in our lives - the serenity, the turmoil, the flood. These points mark our essence; they live in our mind; they settle in our body; they drive our gestures. Over time, we become a thread of traces that mark our slow yet inevitable transformation. This work is not about forgetting about this process. It is about the beauty of what remains. The gaps, the weathered surface, the worn edges, the faded textures. They speak of presence through absence, of stories half-remembered yet deeply felt.
